Time Machine, Apple’s backup solution introduced with Mac OS X v10.5, can work in many Apple programs, not just the Finder.

For example, open Address Book, then choose “Enter Time Machine” from the Time Machine menu (or click on the Time Machine icon in the Dock), and you’ll be presented with a series of Address Book windows stretching back in time.

You can restore individual contacts or select multiple contacts for restoration—once you’ve selected the contacts to restore, click the Restore button at the bottom of the screen and you’ll be prompted to confirm the restoration and, if needed, to resolve duplicates and conflicts.

This works in Address Book, iPhoto and Mail.
